On May 16th, 1933, Richard M. Hollingshead, Jr. was granted a patent for a new type of theatre that allowed patrons to watch movies in the privacy of their own car. Of course, this new theatre is known as the Drive-In Theatre. To promote his new idea, Park-In-Theatres, Inc. produce just 1000 copies of a special promotional brochure in January of 1934 to be given to prospecting individuals who wanted to jump on the drive-in bandwagon. There were no records as to how many were actually distributed, but we could safely assume that many were looked at as a piece of promotional literature and discarded. All know copies of thebrochure were considered lost or destroyed.
In 1995, a single copy of the Park-In-Theatre promotional brochure was discovered locked away in an airtight vault. It had been stored that way for over 60 years. A piece of Drive-In history thought long gone had been unearthed!
The Drive-In Theatre Fan Club purchased this one-of-a-kind historical treasure and had decided to make this brochure available for all to cherish in a LIMITED EDITION reissue. Limited to just 200 copies, this 28 page 2-Color brochure, with a 2 page fold-out illustration of the first drive-in theatre, has been professionally printed on heavyweight glossy stock. It measures 8 1/2" a 11 1/4". This is NOT a cheap photo copy but a true reproduction of the original brochure.
